Classroom Teacher

An Icahn Charter School teacher is dedicated to student achievement and holds an unwavering belief that all students are capable and will experience high levels of success. Our teachers are supported in becoming experts in their craft through intentional professional learning experiences, coaching and hands-on learning and observation. Teachers use thoughtful planning practices and flexibility in the classroom to personalize the learning experiences for their students and are invested in the progress of each individual student. We seek a highly qualified educator who is committed to continual learning in order to elevate their own planning, instructional and pedagogical practice in service of students. Our teams of teachers work collaboratively with colleagues and with building and administration -level staff and our educators benefit from strong, relationship-centered school environments. Icahn teachers bring with them a reflective approach to teaching that supports their awareness of and deep respect for diversity in culture, experience, language, and lifestyle.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned daily instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Implement school-adopted curricula, including Wit & Wisdom, Illustrative Mathematics, Fundations, Heggerty, Geodes, and other instructional programs with fidelity.

Create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes high expectations, student engagement, and academic success.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all learners, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.

Analyze assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

Administer school-wide and state assessments and use results to inform instructional planning.

Provide targeted small-group instruction and intervention to accelerate student learning.

Establish effective classroom management systems that foster respect, responsibility, and student ownership.

Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and student progress.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student achievement, behavior, and classroom expectations.

Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, interventionists, and administrators to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.

Participate in professional development, curriculum planning, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

Support school-wide initiatives, enrichment activities, and family engagement events.

Maintain compliance with school policies, New York State Learning Standards, and charter school expectations.
