SETSS Teacher, Full-Time or Part-Time

Bronx Community Charter School (BxC) is seeking a full-time or half-time SETSS teacher to support students with IEPs through push-in and pull-out work.

BxC is a small K-8 learning community founded on the principle that children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning. Our students raise questions about the world around them, engage with a wide range of materials, and learn through their interactions with each other and all of the adults in the school community. BxC is located in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx and serves children and families from throughout Community School District 10. 87% of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 31% receive special education services, and 19% are classified as English Language Learners.

BxC teachers are deeply committed to collaboration. Through a two week Summer Institute, weekly grade team and staff meetings, schoolwide committees, and more, BxC staff members’ voices and ideas are fundamental to the success of our school. SETSS TEACHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Math and ELA Growth:

• Working with individual students and groups to help them achieve their IEP goals and to develop their math skills and understandings more broadly
• Developing and implementing engaging and effective lesson plans that address the specific needs of each student
• Designing & implementing differentiated math instruction using scaffolds, multisensory strategies and supports
• Using both push-in and pull-out structures to most effectively support students in accessing the math curriculum

Assessment:

• Assessing students using a variety of tools to identify their needs and measure their progress.
• Maintain accurate progress monitoring data and support compliance with IEP mandates, accommodations, and reporting requirements
• Developing and using formative assessments to assess student progress
• Using a variety of data effectively to refine and improve teaching and learning

Collaboration

• Collaborating with classroom teachers and other providers to best serve the needs of each student
• Working with the Special Education Coordinator and school leadership to determine the most effective schedule of services
• Providing progress monitoring reports to families, communicating proactively with & collaboratively with families regarding student growth, strategies, & supports
• Contributing to teacher reports and other IEP-related documentation

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

• Certification in special education
• 2 years or more of teaching experience
• Proven ability to help students make significant growth
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students
• Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with diverse learning profiles
• Commitment to culturally responsive, and collaborative problem-solving
• Knowledge of NYC special education service models, IEP implementation and progress monitoring practices preferred

• Salary according to experience based upon BxC’s union salary scale
